P5 - Toponymy and traditions:
Words and old traditions in Laudio

One of the project's activities has been to research the Basque toponymy of Laudio. In this way, the students were able to find out more about the origin of the names of streets, "farmhouses", mountains... and understand the use of Basque. On the other hand, they have investigated Basque traditions that are unfortunately disappearing nowadays due to the current way of life and cultural globalisation.

The students in 4th year have designed a questionnaire to find out about the use of Basque in Laudio, they have asked the inhabitants in the street and with the data obtained they have drawn up a series of conclusions.

We had the opportunity to learn more about the toponymy of our town thanks to Feliz Muguruza, language-technician of the Basque language area of Laudio Town Hall and expert in toponymy, Basque traditions and culture.
